Loch Muik View
Oil on canvas, 45 x 61 cm.
Part of my Lochnagar series 2019/2020, it evolved from in-situ sketches of the glen overlooking Loch Muik, part of the Lochnagar munro walk in the Cairngorms.
Whilst walking I note the colours I see, gathering a particular spectrum for my paintings, affected by light, weather and time. As well as noting colours whilst walking, I use photoshop to select colours to create a fuller palette. This way, I take the natural colourings of the land, albeit mediated through technology, out of their original context, painting large areas of unexpected colour that show that hills aren’t just green, and granite isn’t just grey.
